It’s tough coming second
Almost every England player has taken their runners up medals off immediately after they were placed around their necks.
The disappointment will be burning into them, especially seeing the Italian players jumping and celebrating in front of them.
That pain will likely become even more unbearable when Italy lifts the trophy.
It’s a case of coming so, so close, but not quite getting over the line for England, who have made such great strides since the last time they played in the Euros and were ignominiously bundled out by Iceland.
The Italians acknowledged what a tough final England had given them, by standing in a guard of honour as they went up to get their trinkets, which is a nice, classy touch.
I can confirm too that Dan has been incredibly classy in his response to winning.
