This is how close Adam Scott came to winning just his second title in five years
Adam Scott has missed a golden opportunity to add to his 14 PGA Tour titles, beaten in a six-way play-off for the Wyndham Championship.
Key points:
- Australian Adam Scott was in a six-way play-off for victory at the Wyndham Championship
- Kevin Kisner won after birdying the second play-off hole
- Scott’s only PGA Tour win since 2016 was at the 2020 Genesis Invitational
Scott was set to claim his second PGA tournament since 2016, adding to his 2020 Genesis Invitational victory, but Kevin Kisner of the US took the win in what turned out to be a two-hole play-off.
The Australian joined Kisner, Kevin Na, Branden Grace, Roger Sloan and Kim Si-woo in the play-off after they all finished at 15-under at Greensboro, North Carolina.
Scott, who had never lost a play-off before, nailed a 330-metre drive on the par-four 18th before landing his pitching wedge 130 centimetres from the hole.
The 41-year-old had made all 53 of his putts from that sort of range during the tournament, but could not do the same when it mattered most, rolling his shot just to the left of the cup as everyone made it in four strokes.
Scott was good off the tee yet again as the field reloaded, but his 9-iron left him too much to do on the green, while Kisner landed his second shot right next to the hole, putting in for victory.
