Nathan Buckley steps down as Collingwood coach

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley has quit after 10 seasons in charge of the club.

Buckley, who has been in charge of the Magpies since 2012, informed his players of his intention to leave this morning.

He is due to speak to the media soon.

His departure adds to a year of turmoil which has seen club president Eddie McGuire resign after his much-criticised response to an internal report into racism at the club, and a challenge by former Nine Network managing director Jeff Browne to the board, including new president Mark Korda.

On the field, Collingwood is struggling at 16th on the ladder, with just three wins from 12 games this season.

Buckley’s final game as coach will be the Queen’s Birthday clash with Melbourne next Monday at the SCG.

Robert Harvey will take over as interim coach for the remainder of the season.

Buckley played 260 games for the Magpies, and his final match will be his 218th in charge of the team as coach.

More to come.
