Three Wallabies stood down before Bledisloe Cup over alcohol breach

Australia has stood down three players for breaching alcohol policies, just days out from the start of the Bledisloe Cup series against New Zealand, which starts on Saturday.

Wallabies trio Marika Koroibete, Pone Fa’amausili and Isi Naisarani were found to have breached team protocols following a team dinner by consuming alcohol beyond an agreed time prior to a training-free day.

“We are building a culture of working hard for each other and being accountable for our actions,” Wallabies coach Dave Rennie said in a statement.

“On this occasion, these three players haven’t lived up to that and we’ve taken a very clear stance.

Those allegations relate to a flight to Sydney on July 30, which was carrying players from both codes.

More Bledisloe fixture changes

This year’s series between the two sides has undergone several schedule changes due to the impacts of COVID-19.

The Wallabies and All Blacks will now play back-to back games at Eden Park in New Zealand to open the series, before travelling to Perth for the third game, which has been pushed back by a week.

Those changes follow an earlier shuffle, which moved the first two games to New Zealand, to avoid players being required to travel between the two countries more than necessary.

The game at Perth Stadium, originally scheduled for August 21, will now take place on August 28.

Australia has not won the Bledisloe Cup since 2002.
