About 97 people were injured when a train derailed near the northern city of Tokh on Sunday, Egypt’s health ministry said.
More than 50 ambulances have been dispatched by the health ministry to rescue the injured from the train accident.
Egyptian railway authorities said they were still investigating the cause of the train crash, which was traveling from Cairo to Mansoura on Sunday.
The Egyptian Railways said in a statement that four cars derailed near Sandanahar station (near Toukh) at 13:54 of train No. 949/3209 on the way from Cairo to Mansoura.
Khaled Megahed, a spokesman for the health ministry, told several local TV stations that most of the seriously injured were minors and moderates.
The video, posted on social media, showed the crash and overturned train cars scattered on the railroad tracks and the sound of the crisis. Train traffic in the eastern delta was disrupted.
This is the third major train accident in Egypt in less than a month. At least 32 people were killed and 165 injured last month after two trains collided in the Tahta district of Sohag’s upper Egyptian government.
