Italy survive huge Euros scare against Austria to claim extra-time victory

Italy have avoided a massive Euros upset against Austria thanks to a pair of goals in extra time, and some VAR intervention.

The dogged Austrians pushed the more-fancied Italians all the way, with the match finishing 2-1 thanks to goals in the first half of extra time from substitutes Federico Chiesa and Matteo Pessina.

Austria pulled a goal back — the first Italy has conceded in the tournament — in the 114th minute thanks to a stooping Sasa Kalajdzic header.

Austria had the ball in the back of the net in regulation time through Marko Arnautović but it was ruled out on video review for offside.

In the other game, Denmark were far too good for Wales, winning 4-0 to progress.

More to come.
